Patricia Lewis Matzer, age 89, of Banner Elk, North Carolina passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC.She was born on November 13, 1928 in Seminole County, Florida, the daughter of the late Meriwether (M.G.) Gaines Lewis and Maurine Bass Lewis.She was preceded in death by her Parents; Two Husbands, Kenneth Chesley Talbert, Sr., Rudolph Frank Matzer; Two Sons, Kenneth Chesley Talbert, Jr., Randolph (Randy) Karl Matzer; Two Cousins: Barbara Lewis Lester and Meriwether Porter Kelly.A long time summer resident, Patricia moved permanently to Banner Elk in 2015 where she became a member of Banner Elk Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville, FL and attended the University of South Carolina for three years, where she was an avid member of the cheerleading squad. She finished her Bachelor's Degree at Jones College in Jacksonville, FL. She enjoyed puzzles, knitting, classic movies and all sports, especially the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Jacksonville Jaguars. She had a special place in her heart for Frank Sinatra and his music.Patricia leaves behind to cherish her memory her: Son, Michael Talbert of Jacksonville, FL, Daughter, Gale (Gary) O'Neill of Citrus Heights, CA, Cousin, Charles Porter of Jacksonville, FL, and her feline companion, Madigan.A Memorial Service for Patricia Matzer will be held on Saturday November 3, 2018 at Banner Elk Presbyterian Church at 2 PM with Reverend Feild Russell officiating. To Pat's Family-

Sometimes word falls to ground, but we sadly learned too late of Aunt Pat's passing (tracing a holiday card).

I wanted to share how kind Pat was to me, my family, and for those perhaps unaware, her extended (many, west-coast) family. Pat was beloved to all, especially her cousin, Florence "Flonnie" Lewis Mitchell, my step-mom, who spoke so fondly of visits with Pat in childhood, and forever longer in life as many of us saw her with vistis to east and west coast, and even Mexico!

Pat made everyone she touched feel special.

I speak for a large group of neices and nephews, through several of her also-deceased cousins ...3 siblings, who called her their 4th sibling: Tommy "T" Lewis (Cammie, Thomas; and their families), Mary Lewis Kurowski (Catherine, Walter, Tommy, Ginger; and their families ), and Florence Lewis Mitchell (Ralph, Kent, Scot, Ann, Lorton (d.2015) & Belle; and their families). I'll also add extended Lewis cousins, the Alston & Glenn families, many in the Atlanta area.

Aunt Pat, you touched us all, and we'll love you forever.

Patricia was a remarkably adorable special person. We had the opportunity to enjoy her company during the last more than 30 years many times... at her beach house... at her beautiful mountain house... and had always a wonderful inspiring time with her. We all loved her very much and are happy and thankful that we had been a part of her life.
Our deepest sympathy with Michael and all family and friends.
We all are going to miss her so much.

I'm Ramona Bullock's son, and the older brother of Barry Bullock, who were close to Patricia for years. As I reside in France, I wasn't as close to Patricia, but I always enjoyed being with her, and enjoyed her sparkly and vivacious personality. Patricia Matzer was a very dear friend and I always enjoyed her spunk and feisty nature. Patricia was committed and loved her church and church friends. Like so many, her heart came to be in the beautiful blue ridge mountains. Patricia wanted to spend her final days in the serenity and beauty of the home her son Mike built and she truly cherished the beauty and variety the change of seasons offered. She lived her dream and has left this world fulfilled. Over the years I was fortunate to get to know her son Michael and her daughter Gale. I want them to know my prayers are with them during this difficult time. I will kiss Patricia a lot. She was like my second mom in a way and Patricia and my mother, Ramona, were also good friends and will be missed by mom as well. Patricia had a big heart and strong personality and if you met her she made an impression. I’m glad she is finally with her Heavenly Father and I pray for comfort and guidance for her children.
