Montie Ray Shell

Montie "Ray" Shell, age 86, of Newland passed away on Saturday March 12, 2011 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. A native of Avery County, he was born November 17, 1924 the son of the late Alvin and Dollie Franklin Shell. He was a member of Elk Mountain Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Ray had worked for Spruce Pine Hosiery Mill and Henredon Furniture and enjoyed woodworking. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Blanche Amy Shell; his son, Charles Ray Shell; sisters, Vida Shell and Arline Wright. Ray has left to cherish his memory: his grandchildren, Eric Shell and Heather Frye; sisters, Rona Ledford and Pansy Huffman. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Shell will be Monday, March 14th 2:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Wayne Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Elk Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elk Mtn. Cemetery Fund.
