Jimmy Winfield Mackie, age 75, of the Cranberry Gap Community passed away on May 7, 2016 at Brian Center in Spruce Pine, NC.A native of Avery County, Jimmy was born July 18, 1940 a son of the late Walter "Runt" and Kathryn Foster Mackie.In addition to his mother and father, Jimmy is proceeded in death by his: wife of 42 years, the late Sara Hughes Mackie; three brothers, Dean, Larry and Eugene; three sisters, Nancy, Judy and Martha; a nephew, Matthew.Jimmy has left to cherish his memory his: son, Christopher James Mackie of Cranberry Gap; "daughter", Twana Blair Roberts and husband Craig of Elk Park, NC; nephews, Kevin Mackie, Steven Mackie, Little Dean Mackie, Jr., Jackie Banner, Michael Banner; nieces, Angela Mackie, Stephanie Mackie, Roxanne Harpe, Sabrina Hill; and very close friends, Blue Blair, Freddie Brown, Darrell Callahan and Jordan Corrigan; and a host of great nieces and nephews.Jimmy was retired from NC DOT. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and working in his garden.All friends and family will gather at the home of Dorian and Brenda Blair in Minneapolis, NC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 12th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with services to follow at 8:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. There are those who have a profound impact on other's lives, my Uncle Jimmy is one. You would be hard pressed to find another like him. I am blessed to have had him in my life for 46 years. He was a quiet, honest, solitary man full of wisdom, love and sweetness. He always cared about his family and friends, regardless if near or far. Always willing to help someone in need no matter the reason. Never a mean-spirited bone in his body!

One of my fond memories of him was he love to read books, especially crime dramas, whodunnit's, etc., which he passed on to me. Every time I would see him, I was reminded of my dad as they resembled one another so much. I will always miss his guidance, smile, laugh and gentleness.

You are pain free now and with your beloved, Sara. Fly to the Angels!!!
