Helen Ruth Hughes

Helen Ruth Hughes, age 98, of Linville, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at her residence. She was born on October 23, 1921 in Carter County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Columbus Henry Hughes and the late Bertha Boone Hughes. Helen was a member of the Linville United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking for the Lions Club. During the Christmas Season, she was well known for her delicious cakes and goodies. During the War, she worked in a Torpedo Plant up North. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her Sisters Grace Daniels, Marian Garland; Brothers, Dave Hughes, Ted Hughes and James Hughes. Helen leaves behind to cherish her memory her: Son, Michael Anthony Hughes( Melissa) of Linville, NC, Daughter, Grace Lee Tolley of Spear ,NC. Daughter, Brenda Joyce Duncan of Norfolk, VA.and Daughter Janet Kolner of Schenectady, NY.; Sisters, Christine Billings of Rural Hall, NC. Barbara Gelston of Denver, Colorado. Brother: Paul (Faye) Hughes, Linville, NC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Turner, Michelle Scott, Derek Duncan, Blake Duncan, Lesley Canupp, Charlie Vance, Lochlin Vance, Mary Hughes , Susan Smith, Yvette Iacabucci, and Tina Bloomer; great grandchildren, Todd Vance, John Michael Canupp, Milton Canupp, DJ Turner, Zeb Vance, Zoe Vance and Eve Scott, ; Great great grandchilden, Aiden Vance and Grace Lynn Vance; and a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Linville United Methodist Church or Yellow Mountain Enterprises.
