I remember Mrs. Faye being at the old Banner Elk Elementry School working to make sure I had breakfast and lunch would even cover it if I got a little extra and did not have the money to cover it and a couple of times paid for me icecream with the promise of paying her back the next day and I always did. She would always make sure I made it through the meal and out the cafeteria without being bullied or my stuff being messed with. She was so loving and kind, became like a second grandmother to me and I loved her so much. I remember when I was having a migraine and walked in she could tell by with one look by how pale I was and my head heled down I was not feeling well so she would ask if I needed to go to the office to call home or take some medicine and if I said yes she would always pick a student that showed kindness towards me to walk me to the office 'then the student was to come straight back - no pit stops - she would be watching.' I came to realize later that Mrs. Faye and my grandmother Shirley Jean Gwyn were best friends and I believe I remember my grandma saying she had made a blanket for Faye but I can't remember when. I guess that is why Mrs. Faye tried so hard to help me have a good time in elementary school because my grandmother could not protect everywhere I went so I needed a helping hand to give me a nudge in the right direction. Between both of them, I finally got the biggest nudge I desperately needed for so long. I will always think of Mrs. Faye as my Grandmother and I will never forget her. The only peace I have is knowing that now all of my grandmothers are in heaven looking down on me and I know that they would be very proud of all the accomplishments I have been achieving this past year.
