Thomas Harvey Lowe of Ferndale, Md., passed away peacefully on May 11, 2016. He was 86 years old. One of seven children, he was born April 12, 1930, to the late Leo L. Lowe and Flora West Lowe of Banner Elk. Tom was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Shirley Cleckner Lowe; his brothers Leo Lowe and Jack Lowe; and his sister June Lowe Palanis. He is survived by his daughter Desiree Lowe Peck, stepdaughters Christine Johnston and Nancy Anello, and several grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Fred Lowe and two sisters, Kathleen Lowe Proffitt and Carol Lowe Timblin. Tom was a proud veteran, having served in the Army during the Korean War. He was also a member and strong supporter of the American Legion. Tom spent his adult life in Maryland working in construction. He enjoyed gardening in the summer and sharing the produce with friends and neighbors. He and Shirley loved having family and friends visit their home. They were also avid Baltimore Raven fans. He has now returned to his mountain home. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Arbor Dale Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 15, 2016, with visitation at 12 noon and funeral service at 1 pm. He will be laid to rest in the Banner Elk Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shepherd M. Duggar Monument c/o the Banner Elk Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1618, Banner Elk, NC 28604, or your local American Legion. The care of Thomas and his family has been entrusted to Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
