Roy Jones

Roy Jones, 73, of Newland, the Lick Log Community, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Carl and Maude Hughes Jones.Roy loved spending time with his family and picking music. He was known for just bursting out into a song and leading family and friends in those songs. There was never a project or repair that he would not take on. No one could tell a joke quiet like Roy. He retired as a Truck Driver after many years with Dellinger Nursery.A loving husband, father, and Big Papa, he leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Patricia Silver Jones of the home; daughters, Carol Smith, and her husband, Garrick, of Banner Elk, Christa Poore, and her husband, Sam, of Pineola, Carla Jones Guinn of Lick Log, Deanna Griffith, and her husband, Glenn, of Newland, Misty Henson, and her husband, Chad, of Canton, GA; grandchildren: Tyne Franklin, and her husband, Jeremy, of Lick Log, Hannah Guinn of Newland, Tyler Phillips of Holden Beach, Zack Guinn of Hampton, TN, Eli Jones of Canton, GA; great granddaughters, Irelyn, Addison, and Ayleigh; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Silver of Burnsville; sister in law, Iva Lee Garland of Newland; Brother in law Philip Simmons of Burnsville and a host of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Title Hughes, Ruth Simmons; and his brothers, Ray Hughes, Newt and Creed Jones.Funeral services for Roy Jones will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Barnes and Rev. Glen Griffith officiating.
