Louise Gay Woodie, 86 of Linville Falls, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC. She was born on September 26, 1928 in Avery County, a daughter of the late Marshall and Eliza Hughes Sanders. She was a homemaker, co-owner of the General Store, worked at Baxters, Broughton Hospital, and was a great babysitter. She was a life long member of the Pineola Church of God, where she was very active and served as a Sunday School Teacher. Gay enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening and genealogy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Odis E. Woodie; sisters, Estalena Barrier, Millie Ann Garrison, Hazel Sanders; brother, Tommy Saunders; son-in- law, Fred Hobson. A loving mother and nanny, she leaves behind to cherish her memory: her children, Gilda Mervine, and her husband, John, of Lincolnton, Perry Woodie, and his wife, Janet, of Newland, Sherri Hobson of Linville Falls; grandchildren, Aaron Kennedy, and her husband, Matthew, of New York, NY, Allison Potter of Linville Falls, Curtis Woodie, and his wife, Mary, of Winston Salem; great grandson, Mason Potter. Services will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Higher Ground Church of God in Pineola with Pastor Joshua Earl officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow in the Jonas Ridge Cemetery.
