Garry W Aldridge ,age 67, of Banner Elk passed away on July 10, 2014 at the James H Quillen VA Medical Center at Mountain Home, TN.A native of Watauga County, he was born June 30, 1947 a son of the late Mack Donald and Mamie Presswood Aldridge.Garry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was the Owner and Operator of Garry's Upholstery in Banner Elk. He had a passion for street rods and his family. He enjoyed reading, writing, and traveling, especially when he was in Alaska. A devoted family man, Garry would take every chance to spend time with family and friends, dance the evening away with his wife and cooking for his family. A supporter of his community, he organized and chaired the Banner Elk Car Show for Hospice for many many years.Along with his parents, Garry was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Parker Aldridge, Larry Thomas Aldridge, and Jerry Christopher Aldridge.Garry has left to cherish his memory his wife, Teresa Berry Aldridge of the home; sons, Wesley Aldridge, and his wife, Sirrena, of Mountain City, TN, Wyatt Aldridge, and his wife, Jamie, of Spruce Pine; grandchildren, Connor, Natalie, Jo; sisters, Reba Paige of Valdese, Jean Deal of Valdese, Sandy Brown of Richlands, VA; brothers, Bill Aldridge of Richlands, VA, Mike Aldridge of Richlands, VA, Donald "Duck" Aldridge of French Village, MO; a host of nieces and nephews.Funeral services for Garry W Aldridge will be conducted on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. George Wright officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The Avery County Shrine Club, 164 Hickory Estate Lane, Newland, NC 28657.Words of comfort and memories may be shared with the family and viewed at www.rsfh.net.Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland is serving the Aldridge family. 828-733-2121

What a privilege to have known Garry and spent time with Teresa and him at Grandview Restaurant. And, his sense of humor made everyone around him laugh. I consider him the Will Rogers of Avery County.
